THE SELFLESS DEDICATION of thousands of individuals to the
often-unrewarding task of writing free software is what makes Open
Source possible. It is time to recognize their spirit with a
high-profile award that will acknowledge the quiet but superb job that
they have been doing so well and for so long.

On 5 September 2002, in the inaugural ceremony sponsored by Silicon
Breeze's Linux Jewellery Store, four outstanding contributors to the
Open Source will be recognized with the first-ever Australian Open
Source Awards.

Awards will be given in four categories: technology, application,
community, and special achievement. The first three awards are decided
by the popular vote of the Australian UNIX Users Group (AUUG)
membership, and the special achievement category is judged by the
nomination committee and the AUUG Board. Nominations close on Saturday,
August 24, 2002. The Awards Ceremony will take place during the AUUG
2002 Annual Conference on September 5, 2002 in Melbourne.
