Bueno, la tontería del benchmark de rigor (fijaos un poco en xterm y
gnome-terminal).

- mrxvt, 
 transparencias y xft :
real    0m7.881s
user    0m1.339s
sys     0m1.399s

-mrxvt, sin transparencia ni xft:
real    0m5.622s
user    0m1.258s
sys     0m1.373s

-aterm, transparencia (gana pero no soporta xft.). Lo he probado incluso dándole un tintado con transparencia y sigue ganando
Tampoco es para tanto la diferencia y la mejora visual de mrxvt hace que merezca la diferencia) :

user    0m1.320s
sys     0m1.454s

-xterm (a mí me da como unos 30s con una máquina parecida, aun así no me puedo creer que haya tanta diferencia con aterm y mrxvt, tremendo )

-gnome-terminal (datos míos , con transparencia. Pensaba que se había quedao chunga la terminal...luego que me digan que todas
son iguales xD)

-no he probao konsole, pero tiene toda la pinta de que debería ser peor que gnome-terminal :-S
