[eside-ghost] Exprimiendo memoria!!!

Aupa, tengo un programa en Java con altos requerimientos de memoria y una
maquina con 512 MB de Ram ( y memoria de video compartida).
Estoy usando Ubuntu Dapper y tras arrancar paso a consola y mato las X con
/etc/init.d/gdm stop
Se me queda la maquina tal que asi:

Que procesos puedo matar para intentar rascar el maximo de memoria al
sistema???? Recordad que lo unico que necesito es lanzar un programa java en
modo consola, no necesito entorno grafico para nada.
