No se si me está escapando algo, pero...

$ apt-cache show imapproxy

Description: IMAP protocol proxy
UP-ImapProxy proxies IMAP transactions between an IMAP client and an
IMAP server. The general idea is that the client should never know that
it is not talking to the real IMAP server, but ImapProxy caches server
connections.

ImapProxy was written to compensate for webmail clients that are unable
to maintain persistent connections to an IMAP server. Most webmail
clients need to log in to an IMAP server for nearly every single
transaction; This behaviour can cause tragic performance problems on
the IMAP server.

ImapProxy tries to deal with this problem by leaving server connections
open for a short time after a webmail client logs out. When the webmail
client connects again, ImapProxy will determine if there is a cached
connection available and reuse it if possible.

La que se suele utilizar es FLAGGED

Sobre Los FLAGS que permite IMAP4 [rfc1730] son:

FLAGS A parenthesized list of flags that are set for this
message. This may include keywords as well as the
                      following system flags:

                      \Seen Message has been read

                      \Answered Message has been answered

\Flagged Message is "flagged" for urgent/special
                                  attention

\Deleted Message is "deleted" for removal by
                                  later EXPUNGE

\Draft Message has not completed composition
                                  (marked as a draft).

as well as the following special flag, which may be
                      fetched but not stored:

\Recent Message has arrived since the previous
                                  time this mailbox was selected.

Todo lo demás no es estandar, por lo que cada programa/webmail lo
implementará a su manera

Un saludo y la próxima vez puedes preguntar en casa ;-) aunque así (a
través de e-ghost) la información se comparte también...

Un saludo,
