He probado a preguntar a google:The key to my problem was the text "to
procedure ypproc_match" in the error messages. Basically, I found out that
this means the error was being generated by a ypmatch. Researching ypmatch
led me to learning that it was related to NIS maps...

Long story short: The "nsswitch.conf" files on my clients were asking NIS
for maps my NIS server wasn't serving. In the error messages I posted above,
the specific map being requested, but not available was "user_attr". Among
others, "user_attr" was one entry in the nsswitch.conf on the Solaris
machines that said "files nis". I simply changed the entry to read
"user_attr files" so that NIS was removed from the search altogether.

And voila! No more errors on the server regarding "refused connect from"!

Seguro que tu problema no es idéntico pero a lo mejor te puede dar pistas
para mirar por ahí... lo digo sin haber configurado JAMAS un servidor NIS...
y para qué te metes? Me preguntarás. Pues la culpa es del firewall de mi
empresa, que no me deja entrar en facebook, con algo me tengo que distraer
